JOIN OUR MEMBERSHIP

Joining our synagogue is an act of brit—covenant—binding yourself to a sacred kehillah rooted in Torah, tefillah, and chesed. It is choosing a spiritual בית (bayit), a home where Shabbat is welcomed with song, where our children inherit our stories, and where we mark life’s sacred moments—from baby namings and b’nai mitzvah to weddings and kaddish—together.

Here, our voices carry the echoes of Sinai alongside the faith, resilience, and moral courage born of the African American journey. We stand in the legacy of those who turned suffering into strength and prayer into perseverance, affirming that “Kol Yisrael areivim zeh bazeh”—we are responsible for one another. Membership sustains not only programs and prayer, but the living transmission of our mesorah and the vibrant future of Jewish life in our community.

We are also committed to ensuring that finances are never a barrier to belonging. Discreet financial assistance is available—not only to make membership and programs accessible, but to offer support in moments when life brings unexpected challenges—because sacred community means standing with one another in every season. By joining the OEC DC family, your OEC Founder's Membership unlocks intimate access to networks, private programming, exclusive social events, and priority Rabbinic access. There will be only 36 Founder's Membership available. Once they are fully committed, all new memberships will be subject to the 5786 Membership Dues.
