About The Event
On Shabbat HaGadol—the “Great Shabbat” before Pesach—we pause at the threshold of redemption, remembering that the journey from bondage to freedom did not end in Egypt. As African American Jews, we carry the sacred echoes of the Exodus alongside the enduring legacy of American slavery and the courageous struggle for civil rights that followed. This Shabbat invites us to honor the faith, resistance, and moral clarity of those who marched, prayed, and sang freedom into being. Together, across generations, we gather to heal, to remember, and to prepare our hearts to cross once more into a future shaped by justice, dignity, and black excellence.
