For others, it is a return to a milestone they celebrated years ago—one that now carries new meaning as they have grown, changed, and developed a deeper connection to Judaism. The Adult B’nai Mitzvah Portfolio recognizes that every person arrives at this journey from a different space. There is never a single starting point and nor a one-size-fits-all path. Whether you are beginning your b’nai mitzvah journey for the first time or returning to it designed with the experiences around who you are today. Together, we explore the parts of Jewish life that are now most meaningful to you—from Torah and Hebrew to prayer, tradition, Jewish history, values, and identity. Your experience is tailored to your background, interests, questions, and goals, creating space to go deeper where you are curious and build confidence where you need support. At the heart of the experience is the creation of your personal B’nai Mitzvah Portfolio: a collection of the lessons learned, reflective moments, and the commitment that tells the story of your journey. Your portfolio might include a personal drash, life cycle reflections, family stories, creative work, community envolvement, or other elements that help express what this moment means to you. The journey also includes a personal mitzvah project—an opportunity to turn Jewish learning and values into action. You will choose a cause, community, or issue that matters to you and develop a meaningful project or commitment that reflects your values and makes a difference. For those becoming b’nai mitzvah for the first time, this can be a long-awaited opportunity to claim this milestone as your own. For those returning to a b’nai mitzvah experience from their youth, it can be a chance to revisit familiar traditions with the perspective, wisdom, and questions that come with adulthood. Preparation can be coordinated with the participant’s synagogue of choice, working directly with clergy and the congregation to honor their traditions and requirements.
