Service Description

The B’nai Mitzvah Project is a personalized, project-based learning experience designed to prepare each student for their bar or bat mitzvah—and help them discover what becoming a Jewish adult can mean to them. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all curriculum, we meet each student where they are. Together, we explore their interests, strengths, learning style, and goals to create a meaningful journey that feels uniquely their own. Students develop a deep understanding of their Torah portion, building the skills and confidence they need to participate meaningfully in the b’nai mitzvah service. Alongside Torah study, students design and complete a hands-on mitzvah project connected to a charity or cause they personally care about. Through research, planning, and action, they experience the power of turning Jewish values into real-world impact. The experience may include: Torah study and preparation tailored to the student’s level, learning style, and Torah portion Hebrew and prayer preparation appropriate to the student’s role and service Learning the meaning behind the rituals and traditions of becoming bar or bat mitzvah Public speaking and service leadership, building confidence for the big day A personalized mitzvah project, from choosing a cause to creating and completing a tangible project Reflection and Jewish identity exploration, helping students connect their learning to who they are and who they are becoming Family engagement, creating opportunities for parents and family members to be part of the journey The B’nai Mitzvah Project can be adapted to work within the traditions and expectations of the student’s synagogue of choice. We can collaborate directly with the student’s rabbi, cantor, and synagogue to coordinate preparation and ensure a seamless experience. For families looking for an alternative setting, we can also provide a beautiful space to host the b’nai mitzvah celebration, creating an experience that brings together the student’s Torah learning, mitzvah project, family, and community. Most importantly, this is not simply preparation for a ceremony. It is a journey of learning, discovery, responsibility, and becoming. Every student leaves with more than a completed Torah portion—they leave having created something meaningful and made a difference in a cause that matters to them.
